Runs racked up as leaders race clear

FOUR teams topped the 300 runs mark on a day when spectators were treated to some huge hitting.The place to be was Lidgett Lane where 467 runs were scored and visitors Honley won by three runs, with Skelmanthorpe’s last pair just failing to snatch victory.

Honley totalled 335-6, opener Simon Kelly batting throughout for a superb undefeated 180. Skelmanthorpe rose to the challenge, Haroon Rashid’s 119 including 12 fours and five sixes, and James Dollive plundering 83. The home side needed just four to win off the last over, bowled by Harlon Haye (5-87).

Leaders Delph & Dobcross demolished Marsden by 305 runs. Irfan Zahoor and Bruce Cruse had an opening partnership of 201, both completing centuries for Delph who piled up 346 runs despite the efforts of Chris Kilner, with five wickets. In reply, Marsden were sent back for 41 runs in 23.3 overs, having no answer to Bilal Khiljee’s 5-13.

Shepley also amassed a big score, defeating Shelley by 146 runs after posting 325-5 in their 50 overs. Sarjinder Pal Singh and Tom Denton had an opening partnership of 181, Singh hitting 17 fours in his 125, while Denton made 88. Liam Wiles joined in the runs feast with an unbeaten half-century. Spinner Amar Rashid took 6-54 and Shelley were bowled out for 179.

Kirkburton maintained their recent run as they defeated Broad Oak by four wickets. Stephen Rushworth made 83 for Oak but Greg Buckley spun his way to six wickets and then collected his seventh half-century for Kirkburton. Ryan Robinson was the winners’ most successful batsman with 82.

Australian Jack McNamara was the match-winner for Golcar against Elland with an undefeated 66. The last of his boundaries came off the first ball of the last over to win the game. Chris Walker, 19, struck a half-century.

Ibrar Latif and Tom Brook had a fifth-wicket stand of 121 for Scholes who defeated Slaithwaite. Latif led the way with 112, Chris Conners (103no) and Bjorn Taylor (89) had a fourth wicket partnership of 158 for Slaithwaite.

Michael Cranmmer took five wickets in Hoylandswaine’s six-wicket win over Barkisland.
