Much respected, admired and loved, the 67-year-old, and his British-born wife, has regarded this country as home for the past 44 years until he became caught up in the Windrush scandal and the Government’s ‘hostile’ immigration policy.

Hide AdThe consequence is that Mr King, who was due to play for Dunnington this summer, is in limbo in his native Barbados while his anxious family here try to make sense of this sorry state of affairs. “Never once in 44 years have I overstayed my time,” lamented Mr King as he discussed his visa obligations. “I was not born a British citizen but I have been going to Britain long enough to feel part of the English set-up.” If this Government has a clue, and a heart, it will intervene before it is left stumped by another embarrassment of its own making.
