Title beckoning once more for Wrenthorpe

WRENTHORPE stayed on course to retain the Premier Division title by beating strugglers Birstall.

Skipper Gary Fellows (4-20), Joe Ellis (2-25), Greig Batty (2-6) and David Paynter (2-32) skittled Birstall for 105 after Fellows (44) and Paynter (36) led Wrenthorpe to 204-7 in a 37-over game.

Wrenthorpe are 10 points clear of New Farnley who climbed to second by crushing bottom side Ossett. Ian Fisher (44no) guided Farnley to a seven-wicket win after David Cummings (3-9), Fisher (2-9), David McCallum (2-9) and Danny Busfield (2-37) routed Ossett for 93.

Openers Hamid Khan (82) and Nick Connolly (67no) put on 137 as Methley overhauled Wakefield St Michael’s total of 188-7 that included half-centuries by Ryan Hercules and Simon Stirling.

Richard Foster (110) and Nathan Glynn (94) shared an opening 223-run stand as Wakefield Thornes piled up 275-5 against Hunslet Nelson who were bowled out for 143 in reply.

Jonathan Boynton struck an unbeaten 106 off 108 deliveries and shared an unbroken 191-run partnership with Sri Lankan Milan Gunarathne as Mirfield Parish Cavaliers ended a three-match losing run by beating Townville by eight wickets.

John Trower (67), Jonathan Booth (54) and Jack Hughes (41) led Townville’s scoring.

Northowram Fields eased their relegation worries with a three-wicket win against Altofts.

Moorlands lost top spot in Division One when their five-match winning run ended with a 48-run defeat against promotion rivals Buttershaw St Paul’s.

Pritesh Mistry (3-32), Chris Kellett (3-25) and Paul Robinson (2-29) toppled Moorlands for 124, replying to Buttershaw’s 172-9.

Carlton are the new leaders after opponents Ossett were unable to raise a team. Batley and Liversedge, meanwhile, maintained their promotion challenges.

Roheil Hussain smashed five sixes in a whirlwind 122 off 73 balls and shared a century stand with Mohammed Tahir (106) as Batley posted 291-4 against Oulton.

Jabir Patel (5-21) and Huzaifah Patel (3-32) sent Oulton reeling from 48-1 to 119 all out in reply.
