Twigg stands firm to deny Collegiate

UNBEATEN leaders Harrogate topped the 100 points mark after their five-wicket win at Sheffield Collegiate.

The hosts were dismissed for 114 in 43 overs, teenage seamer Sam Davies taking 4-16 from his seven overs. In reply, Harrogate were 61-5, but opener Alexis Twigg and No 7 Andy Hawkswell figured in an unbroken stand of 54. Twigg top-scored with 53.

York completed a league double over Barnsley, leapfrogging them into second place after an eight-wicket victory at Clifton Park. Barnsley were in big trouble at 48-6, Matthew Wilson and Tom Shaw then added 49 but the visitors were bowled out for 123 in 44.4 overs, seamer Charlie Elliot taking 3-25 in seven overs.

Duncan Snell and Liam McKendry began the reply with a stand worth 97 and Alex Collins hit three consecutive fours and two more in the next over to score all his 20 runs in boundaries, York reaching their target in 21.4 overs.

Zafran Ali and brothers Paul and Mark Cummins saw Sheffield United to their first league win since May as visitors Cleethorpes lost by seven wickets. Ali took 5-26 in 11 overs, including two double-wicket maidens, in restricting Cleethorpes to 146 in 54.4 overs. At one stage, the visitors had lost five wickets for 10 runs but half-century maker James Osmond and John Mansfield added 51 for the eighth wicket.

The Cummins brothers had an opening partnership of 89 and both registered half-centuries as United won in 48 overs.

There was a close finish at Rotherham, whose victory by three runs sent Castleford plunging to the foot of the table. Jordan Lowe and Stuart Guy put on 96 for the fourth wicket as Rotherham totalled 236-9. Brayden Clark and Will Simpson enjoyed a second-wicket stand of 94 for Castleford but Gurman Randhawa took five wickets and Castleford finished just short with eight wickets down.

Jonathon Tattersall struck 114 and had a second-wicket partnership of 174 with Jack Leaning for Yorkshire Academy, who won by 20 runs at Scarborough.

David Barrick hit a six and 17 fours in his century as Hull beat Doncaster by 100 runs.

as Treeton triumph

Aston Hall continued their successful run in the Premier Division when inflicting a convincing defeat on Hallam.

An unbeaten half-century from Amir Riaz and good knocks from Scott Hibbett and Rohan Pooley took them to 218-9, and Hallam were sent back for 131, Uzman Azeem claiming 5-29 and Asadullah Butt 3-40.

Treeton were expected to beat strugglers Darfield and their 281-7 was the highest team score of the day, mainly thanks to a typically aggressive century, including 14 fours, from talisman Steve Foster.

Gareth Davis was next best with 48 before a 6-53 stint from Greg Norton stopped Darfield at 142.

Houghton Main made the short trip to Barnsley pay off, answering the home side’s 183-8, of which Steve Bethel made 50 and Kunal Razdan 42, with 184-7, Ian Simon leading the way with 61.

Champions Elsecar picked up useful points when entertaining Wath, who laid down a 191-9 challenge, Mike De Vrye hitting 51. Elsecar batted solidly, if not spectaculary, Ainsley Swallow top scoring with 36 of their 193-5, with Luke Townsend adding 34 not out to his earlier spell of 3-42.

Whitley Hall’s South African star Jaco Castle was the all-rounder of the day, hitting 77 of his side’s 230-8 and then claiming 4-47 as Wickersley fell for 180. Neil Longhurst added 44 for Whitley, while the best Wickersley performers were Haider Jahangir, who hit 10 boundaries in his 72, and Shahid Hussain, with 4-19.

Coal Aston made 184 at Whiston, Richard Mintoft scoring 49, and then dismissed the home team for 94, opener Andy Tomlinson cracking 46, the losers’ wickets shared by James Furniss and Nick Horsfield.

The other century-maker was Treeton B stalwart George Barnes, with an ubeaten 104, including 17 boundaries, in the two-run win over Warmsworth in Division Two.

Norton Oakes’ Andy Firth struck a fine 95, including 12 fours, in the Division One win over Rockingham and Conisbrough opener Des Steele made 97, with 15 boundaries, in his side’s Division One win over Shirgreen.

East Bierley’s hopes of catching Woodlands in the Division One title race suffered a setback with a five-wicket defeat against Lightcliffe.

Jonathan Wilson (84no) and Chris Taylor (69no) shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 110 as Lightcliffe, who had slumped to 121-5 after being given a bright start by Alex Lees (52), overhauled East Bierley’s 231-5.

Mark Gill (52), Lee Goddard (40), Rao Anjum (39no), Richard Atkins (38no) were the main contributors for second-placed East Bierley, who are 44 points adrift of Woodlands, who beat Pudsey St Lawrence by eight wickets.

Scott Richardson (90no) and Simon Mason (89) put on 161 for the second wicket as they led their side’s pursuit of St Lawrence’s 196-8 in which James Smith hit 81 and Gareth Clough (50).

Cleckheaton climbed above St Lawrence into third place after their eight-wicket win over bottom team Undercliffe. Tim Jackson (63), Ian Nicholson (57no) and John Wood (38) led the victory charge after James Lee (5-50) and Ammar Mahmood (3-54) had bowled out Undercliffe for 196. Opener Matthew Bottomley batted through for 87 not out.

Adam Patel made 114 not out for Manningham Mills as they scored a one-wicket win over Saltaire.

Patel and Zeeshan Qasim (31no) shared an unbroken last-wicket stand of 74 as Mills chased down Saltaire’s 262-5, which included an unbeaten 104 from Fahid Rehman. Tineshe Gomwe (62no) put on an undefeated 138 with Rehman.

Saltaire had Manningham Mills to 89-6 and then 189-9, but on each occasion Patel found a defiant partner. First it was wicketkeeper Mohammed Altaf (37) in a seventh-wicket partnership of 81, and then Qasim.

Pudsey Congs were sent spinning to defeat again. Slow bowlers Sandeep Ravishankar (4-55) and Harry Smallwood (4-69) restricted them to 200-9 as Bradford & Bingley secured a 60-run win.

Alex Atkinson (94no), Simon Davies (49), Scott Etherington (39) and David Clow (34) had helped Bradford & Bingley to 260-4.

Farsley went down by five wickets to Hanging Heaton.
