Yorkshire sealed the Division One title by an innings and 152 runs on the morning of the fourth day of their penultimate match of the season against hosts Nottinghamshire.

And the 30-year-old seamer, who arrived at Headingley from Northamptonshire, played his part in the title-winning game, taking 4-58 in Nottinghamshire’s first innings before following up with another two wickets in the second innings.

I honestly can’t put into words how I feel,” said Brooks.

“I was actually crying for about 10-15 minutes, it was just so emotional. It is comfortably the best day of my career, if not my life so far.

“This is a great set of lads and, after the heartache of last year of coming so close we worked our socks off in the winter and I think we fully deserve this.

“I have to pinch myself really at times, I’m just a little local village idiot from Oxfordshire who has come up the M1 and settled into the Yorkshire way of life and these lads have just been fantastic with me.

“I think I’m the only one here who hasn’t come through the club’s Academy - which is testament to Yorkshire cricket and to be part of history here, my name’s going to be on that Championship list now for eternity and I can’t put it into words.”
