The delivery from Ryan Sidebottom was just short of a length and slashed to point by Nottinghamshire’s James Taylor.

Pyrah clung on to a sharp opportunity, and Yorkshire were champions of England once more.

“It was an unbelievable feeling,” said Pyrah, who was on as a substitute for Gary Ballance.

“It’s something you just can’t put into words. It’s my 11th year and the first time I’ve won a trophy with Yorkshire.

“With it being the Championship as well, it doesn’t get any bigger than that.”

How fitting that Pyrah should hold the historic catch.

Not only is he arguably Yorkshire’s best fielder, he is also the embodiment of a true professional.

He sensed this trophy was not far away.

After Yorkshire’s agonising near-miss last year, when Durham pulled away from them at the very last, he said they were determined to get over the line.

“We had the experience of going close last year, but once we got into the last month of the season we weren’t going to give this one away,” he said. “The lesson we learned from last year was just to stay calm really; that was the big thing.

“We were very calm on Friday morning (at Trent Bridge) and it paid off. It was a great achievement by all the lads.”

Pyrah believes Yorkshire have laid the foundation for years of success.

“You’ve only got to look at our bowling attack,” he said. “It’s been awesome – Brooksy (Jack Brooks) has got 60-odd wickets, which is an unbelievable effort, and Siddy (Ryan Sidebottom) bowled unbelievably well under pressure on the last day at Notts.

“It just shows the strength of the players that we’ve got.

“We’ve got a good squad, we’re at a decent age as well, and hopefully we can go on a decent run in these next few years.”
