Woodlands warning to title pretenders

Woodlands won the top-of-the-table clash with Pudsey St Lawrence with an ease that suggests they are in no mood to relinquish their title.

Opener Scott Richardson (95) and Simon Mason (84) shared a decisive second-wicket stand of 163 as Woodlands made 269-7 – the day’s highest total – before dismissing St Lawrence for 120 to secure a 149-run win and maximum points.

Paceman Sarfraz Ahmed struck twice in the opening over of the St Lawrence innings, and despite 47 from Chris Marsden, they never recovered. Left-arm spinner Chris Brice finished them off with 5-31.

Manningham Mills moved up to second after a crushing nine-wicket win at Saltaire. Iqbal Khan took 4-25 and Zeeshan Qasim (3-15) as Saltaire were dismissed for a dismal 83, then Adam Patel hit an unbeaten 48 as Mills eased to their third-successive win.

Hanging Heaton are third after inflicting a third successive defeat on Farsley by 79 runs. John Carruthers (4-34) and paceman David Stiff (3-42) bowled out Farsley for 128 when they replied to the Hanging Heaton total of 207-8.

Pudsey Congs and Cleckheaton have also lost all their matches. Congs went down by 26 runs to Bradford & Bingley, while Cleckheaton suffered a one-wicket loss to Undercliffe.

Simon Davies marked his return to form for Bradford & Bingley with 81 and Alex Atkinson hit 44 in a total of 227-7. Gareth Phillips (55) and Nick Lindley (54) shared a stand of 109 for Congs but once they departed the innings faltered and they finished on 201-7.

Undercliffe’s one-wicket win over Cleckheaton owed much to the performances of Shaaiq Choudhrey and Yassir Abbas.

Spinner Choudhrey took 3-51 as Cleckheaton made 212-8 and hit 54 as his side scraped home with two balls to spare. Abbas blasted an unbeaten 58 off 38 balls to see Undercliffe home. James Lee (4-69) and Ian Wood (3-31) bowled well for Cleckheaton.

Kez Ahmed’s season’s-best figures of 6-31 helped East Bierley bowl out Lightcliffe for 108 and a 94-run win. Captain Lee Goddard (70) and Gavin Hamilton (56) helped East Bierley to 202-8.
