Wood's pace proves too hot for the Saints

Former Lancashire and Durham paceman John Wood took 6-57 as Cleckheaton inflicted a first defeat of the season on Division One leaders Pudsey St Lawrence.

Wood and fellow opening bowler Ian Wardlaw (4-51) shared the wickets as St Lawrence were dismissed for 191 before opener Mark Cummins (76) and Ian Nicholson (40) steered Cleckheaton to a five-wicket win.

David Hester (57) and Chris Marsden (54) were the mainstays of the St Lawrence innings with a fifth-wicket stand of 104.

St Lawrence's lead has been cut from 22 to eight points by second-placed Woodlands, who won by 91 runs win at Gomersal.

Dan Shuffe struck a six and 24 fours as he made 124 in the Woodlands total of 302-8 and there were useful contributions from Nicky Rushworth (43), Adam Goldthorpe (38) and Sarfraz Ahmed (30no).

Seventeen-year-old opener Andy Gorrod was again the pick of the Gomersal batsmen as they replied with 211-8. Richard Spittlehouse took 3-47 and Chris Brice 3-57 for Woodlands.

Third-placed Undercliffe are 15 points behind the leaders on 68 points after they defeated Yeadon by 103 runs to secure their third win in a row. Captain Chris Greenwood took 5-10 and overseas player Nawaz Sardar
