York are closing in on seventh title in a row

Victory over Rotherham Town at Clifton Park, coupled with defeat for second-placed Yorkshire Academy at Barnsley, would leave York uncatchable.

York’s game at Harrogate on Saturday was cut short by rain, while the Academy’s match at Scarborough was rained off without a ball bowled. Harrogate totalled 
256-9 in 48 overs, Australian Calum How and Alexis Twigg sharing an opening stand of 140.

Best of York’s bowlers was spinner Tom Pringle who took 5-55 in 11 overs. The weather caused a delay after tea and York reached 51-2 in 11 overs when rain finally ended play.

In-form Doncaster Town won by one run at Driffield Town. Middle-order batsman Felix Odell made 88 as Doncaster totalled 241 in 51.4 overs, Sam Drury taking 4-11 in four overs and Tom Chippendale 3-33 from 8.4 overs.

With their last pair at the wicket, Driffield needed two for victory when Simon Widdup ran out Nicky Johnson to win the match for Doncaster who have gone five games without defeat.

Teenager Vinny Ogden took 7-52 in 14 overs of medium pace for Rotherham Town who defeated visitors Barnsley by 61 runs. Rotherham amassed 318-8 in 55 overs with skipper Nathan Smith falling nine short of his century, having hit eight fours and five sixes. Captain Steve Nuttall and Jason Booth had a third wicket partnership of 113 for Barnsley whose last wicket pair, Gary Nuttall and Ben Jenkinson, denied Rotherham the full eight points.

The Sheffield derby between Collegiate and United saw home side Collegiate win by 10 runs in a 47 overs-a-side contest. Collegiate were dismissed for 133, Jacob Waterson making a half-century and United captain Paul Cummins taking four wickets.

United then struggled against home captain Matthew Dixon, who spun his way to 5-29 in 15 overs, and seamer Josh Varley’s 3-28 in nine overs. Cummins made 30 in United’s 123-9.

Hull reached 30-1 in 8.5 overs at Appleby Frodingham before rain ended play.
