Yorkshire CCC enjoy '˜bragging rights' over Lancashire after pre-season friendly in Dubai

YORKSHIRE were able to claim bragging rights after their two-day friendly against Lancashire in Dubai.

After Yorkshire scored 313-6 from 89.1 overs on the first day, Lancashire replied with 256-6 from 90 overs on Tuesday.

Technically, Yorkshire lost only three wickets as three of their players were retired out - including top-scorer Gary Ballance (103) - to give others practice.

The match at the ICC Academy ground saw Yorkshire rotate 13 players and Lancashire 15, with both sides agreeing to bat on different days.

Yorkshire used 11 bowlers, including their much-vaunted County Championship seam attack.

Tim Bresnan took 1-22 from nine overs and Jack Brooks 1-25 from nine, while Ryan Sidebottom returned 0-12 from five overs and Steve Patterson 0-15 from 10.

Yorkshire’s most successful wicket-taker was 19-year-old left-arm spinner Karl Carver, who claimed 2-93 from 20 overs.

There was an impressive performance from 18-year-old pace bowler Matthew Fisher, who took 1-18 from 8.3 overs.

Yorkshire’s other wicket-taker was batsman Jack Leaning, who claimed 1-21 from four overs of off-spin.

Brooks struck the first blow when he bowled Haseeb Hameed for 10 shouldering arms.

In the next over, Bresnan’s first, fellow opener Karl Brown was caught behind by Andrew Hodd from a rising ball for 11.

Lancashire lunched on 58-2 from 29 overs, with Luke Procter on 20 and Tom Smith 14.

The pair lifted their third-wicket stand to 81 after the break before Fisher had Smith caught behind for 31 to leave Lancashire 109-3 in the 46th over.

Carver got in on the act when he had a charging Procter caught at slip by Bresnan for 64, leaving the total 125-4 in the 53rd over. Procter hit nine boundaries in his 133-ball stay.

Lancashire took tea on 136-4 from 60 overs, with Luis Reece and Alex Davies both on seven, and Leaning broke the stand when he had Davies caught at mid-wicket for 28 by Matthew Waite, leaving the Red Rose 167-5 in the 68th over.

Reece and Liam Livingstone added 88 for the sixth-wicket before Carver had Reece stumped for 58 from 114 balls with four fours and a six.

Livingstone finished unbeaten on 48 from 62 deliveries with four fours and two sixes.

Yorkshire return to action on Wednesday when they face Leicestershire in a T20 friendly in Dubai.
