Yorkshire CCC takeover: Stephen Vaughan dead-bats Saudi prince claims

YORKSHIRE have played a straight bat to suggestions that they are in negotiations with a Saudi Arabian prince to buy into the cash-strapped organisation.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Badr bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Farhan Al Saud, a government official, is interested in buying out the £15m debt that Yorkshire owe to the family trusts of former chairman Colin Graves.

Stephen Vaughan, the Yorkshire chief executive, and Darren Gough, the managing director of cricket, have been in Dubai working on efforts to refinance the club.

But in a statement issued by Yorkshire on Friday, Vaughan was quoted as saying only: “While we are not able to comment on any of the individual parties involved, we are involved in numerous positive and serious conversations around refinancing of the club and continue to explore all the avenues available to us.”

Graves, the multi-millionaire founder of the Costcutter supermarket group, is interested in returning to the club as chairman.

The club says it is close to finalising that position.
