Yorkshire cricketers hit world record-breaking score in village match

Two local league cricketers from North Yorkshire could have set a world record for a batting partnership after scoring an incredible 340 runs between them.

Tom, a roofer from Selby, scored 200 not out and Mark, a ground worker who lives in Carlton, notched up an innings of 112 without losing his wicket.

In reply, Eggborough were all out for 121.

The pair's nine team-mates enjoyed a quiet evening as none of them were required to bat after their two openers hit nine sixes and found the boundary 28 times.

The score is the highest since the Snaith Evening League was founded in 1931, and surpasses the biggest partnership recorded in an international 20-over match, when Australia scored 263 against Sri Lanka.

The club have contacted cricket almanac Wisden to establish if the innings is the highest ever recorded in professional or amateur cricket.
