Crucible latest: Dott and Allen reach quarter-finals after Sheffield drama

Judd Trump wasted little time in reaching the quarter-finals of the Betfred.com World Championship.

The China Open winner led Martin Gould 11-5 overnight in their best-of-25-frames contest at the Crucible, Sheffield.

Gould, a 29-year-old from Pinner, took the opening scrappy frame, but Trump was not to be denied as he wraped up victory with two swift frames for a 13-6 victory.

In the afternoon session, Ronnie O’Sullivan got off to a great start against Shaun Murphy, leading 6-2 while Ali Carter lost out to Graeme Dott 13-11.

On Saturday evening, Mark Allen came from behind to lead Barry Hawkins 12-9, before the latter clawed back three frames to take the match to a dramatic decider.

If that wasn’t enough drama, Irishman Allen fired in 12 blacks and 12 reds for a winning break of 96 to progress to the quarter-finals.

Seven-times winner Stephen Hendry trailed Mark Selby 7-1 after their first session.
