Cumani is undecided on York trip for Ajman Bridge or Mount Logan

LUCA Cumani has yet to decide whether to run Ajman Bridge, Mount Logan or possibly both in Saturday’s 56th John Smith’s Cup at York.

Cumani has yet to win the historic handicap, although Knockando was first past the post in 1987 before being disqualified and placed third.

Ajman Bridge was a close second to Arab Dawn in the Duke of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot while Mount Logan was a fast-finishing fourth to Mahsoob in the Wolferton Handicap at the same meeting

“We have yet to finalise plans and at this stage both could run or we may just run one,” said Cumani. “Both horses ran excellent races at Royal Ascot and seem in very good form at home.

“It may be that they both are better over a mile and a half but 10 furlongs in such a competitive race where there is a good pace should be fine for them. It would be a great race to win – many moons ago I won the race but was disqualified. It would be very nice to win it.”

Meanwhile, horse of the year Golden Horn has matched the achievement of the great Frankel having been given a rating of 130 by the British Horseracing Authority’s head of handicapping Phil Smith.

John Gosden’s charge became the first horse to achieve the Dante, Derby and Eclipse treble at Sandown last Saturday, sealing his position at the head of the three-year-old tree.

His rating has subsequently been raised by 4lb to 130, joining multiple Group One star Frankel as the only member of the Classic generation to achieve that mark in recent years.

“I would be disappointed if Golden Horn cannot go on and prove himself better than 130 as the season progresses as he is clearly a fast improving colt,” said Smith. “If agreed by the International Handicappers this week, it will make Golden Horn the highest-rated horse in the world so far this year.”

Jump jockey Harry Haynes has retired. His decision came in the week that time was called on the career of Attaglance, the horse he rode to Cheltenham and Aintree glory in 2012.

Haynes struggled to match these great heights in recent years and even tried a stint riding in America. As well as Malcolm Jefferson’s Attaglance, he will always be associated with a number of high-profile steeplechase wins aboard stablemate According To Pete.

However the rider, whose father Peter is an official starter, did earn the distinction of having ridden 101 winners – 97 over jumps and four on the Flat.
