David gains swift revenge on Duncalf

JENNY DUNCALF couldn't pull off a third straight win over world No 1 Nicol David, who stormed to victory in the final of the Chennai Open in India.

Duncalf, the world No 3 from Harrogate, had few answers to her Malaysian opponent who has remained at the top of the world rankings since August 2006 and took just 25 minutes to win 11-6 11-4 11-6 in the $53,500 WISPA World Tour Gold title at the Indian Squash Academy.

Although acknowledging the superiority of her opponent, 26-year-old Duncalf, who beat David in the US Open and Qatar Classic events towards the end of last year to elevate herself temporarily to No 2 in the world, was also quick to point out faults with her own game which she felt contributed to the result.

"From the first rally, when I smacked the tin, from there I was making too many errors," said Duncalf.

"I don't know why, I just felt frustrated with myself for most of the match, but she played very consistently."

David recognised she would have to up her game to avoid a third straight defeat to Duncalf and was pleased with how the match unfolded.

She added: "Jenny has been playing very well and I knew she would come out strong so I had to set my game up well. I was pleased to have managed it."
