Dettori requires best effort from Star Of Seville

Frankie Dettori feels Star Of Seville needs to put in a career-best performance if she is to win the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York – the day one highlight of the Dante meeting.

The John Gosden-trained three-year-old takes on four rivals in the Group Three mile-and-a-quarter contest as she looks to strengthen her claims for next month’s Investec Epsom Oaks.

After breaking her maiden tag on her final run of the season at Doncaster in October, Star Of Seville made an impressive return to action when making all of the running in a 10-furlong conditions event at Newbury last month.

“She won a race at Newbury and has done everything well,” said Dettori, whose career has been given a new lease of life since he teamed up again with the trainer who was so instrumental to the Italian jockey’s early success. “She is taking on a Group One winner Together Forever so needs a personal best.”

Together Forever will look to start the season how she ended the previous one, having completed a hat-trick of wins with victory in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.

Should the Group One winner continue her rapid rate of progression over her first try at the trip it would hand trainer Aidan O’Brien a first victory in the race.

The field is completed by Pretty Polly Stakes third Amaze Me, from the yard of Nick Littmoden, and the Richard Fahey-trained Southwell maiden winner La Dorotea.

Today’s card will see Prince Andrew open the new state-of-the-art weighing room facility before a card which sees the aptly-named Duke of York Clipper Logistic Stakes.

Yorkshire hopes rest with Kevin Ryan’s Astaire, who was second 12 months ago and who bids to go one better on the back of a gutsy victory at Newmarket’s Craven meeting last month.

“Astaire is in great form and I have been pleased with him since Newmarket. It was a good confidence boost for him to get his head in front again,” said the Hambleton trainer.

“He has a great record at York so I would be hopeful that he goes there with a good chance.”
