Dowd double helps Steelers send Stars crashing

The result leaves Gerad Adams’s side three points ahead of third-placed Nottingham Panthers and with a game in hand ahead of their trip to Hull Stingrays on Saturday night where they will look to extend their winning streak to four games.

After a goalless opening period in Tayside last night, it was Tim Spencer who broke the deadlock at 28.57, with Robert Dowd doubling the visitors advantage before the second period break with a 38th-minute powerplay strike.

A dominant Steelers - who outshot their hosts 47-14 over the 60 minutes - made it 3-0 early in the third when Stefan Meyer scored his 26th goal of the season at 43.04. Dowd then doubled his tally for the night when he found a way past Stars netminder Dan Bakala at 56.46.

Afterwards, head coach Adams was full of praise for his team, who are unbeaten since his arrival last week to replace the axed Doug Christiansen.

“We were very professional tonight,” said Adams.

“This was the perfect road game, every player put in a professional shift.

“We had the long bus ride and for the first few minutes were a little slow, then about 7 or eight minutes in we took over and dominated the game until the end. I thought we were excellent.

“We had worked on the powerplay in the week and it was good to see the guys score a powerplay goal tonight.

“The reality is that I haven’t a bad word to say about anyone of them tonight – it was a great road game and a great performance.”
