Ennis shakes off virus in time for Gateshead meet

WORLD heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis will step up her bid for European glory this weekend after shaking off the virus which interrupted her preparations.

The 24-year-old missed two weeks of training after the illness left her with an inner ear problem, but will return to action at the Aviva British Grand Prix at Gateshead, where she will compete in the 200m and the javelin, on Saturday.

Ennis said: "I feel I am fully better now, I feel loads better.

"I would have liked to have done a bit more training and not to have had that period of time doing virtually nothing, but I feel good and I am looking forward to competing this weekend."
