Fearing minimum trip may not suit Realtra

Richard Fahey is worried that Weatherbys Super Sprint favourite Realtra may not be quite quick enough for the minimum distance at Newbury today.

The daughter of Dark Angel appears to be the Malton handler’s best chance of landing back-to-back wins in the £250,000 sales race, where weight carried is determined by the price fetched at the sales.

He runs five and Realtra, who has bottom weight, having cost only 10,000 euro, finished second in a Listed race over six furlongs in Ireland when last seen.

Fahey said: “Realtra is a smart filly and she must have a chance off just eight-stone. I’d just be worried whether she’s quick enough over five furlongs. She’s been saved for this, though.

“Diamond Creek ran quite well at Newmarket last week but she just didn’t quite get home over six. Dropping back in trip will suit her.

“Bond’s Girl won her first two well and I thought she ran better than her finishing position suggests in the Albany. She’s got no weight and would have a chance.

“Tachophobia won over six last time so coming back in trip would be a worry. The owners won the race last year (with Peniaphobia) so they were keen to have a go and he’s improving.

“Spirit Of Zeb is a maiden and I’m surprised he got in. There’s money down to 10th so once they have the entry you may as well run. He’s quite a nice horse and I like him.

“I wouldn’t like to say which has the best chance. Realtra has a nice weight but she’d be better off over six.”

Indigo Lady will try to end her career on an all-time high when she goes for Group Two glory in the Kilboy Estate Stakes at the Curragh tomorrow. The four-year-old filly is in foal to triple Classic winner Camelot.
