Accrington Stanley 3 Doncaster 2: Darren Ferguson angered by Rovers' slips in concentration

Sean McConville scored a stoppage-time winner to earn Accrington a dramatic win and leave Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson fuming.

“It’s about results, it’s a results-based business as well all know,” said Ferguson. “It’s a bad start for us. I think what cost us the game is lapses in concentration. It was three really soft goals that we gave away and that has cost us the game, clearly.”

Relegated Rovers should have had a dream start in the first minute when Aaron Chapman bundled over Matty Blair, but the goalkeeper redeemed himself, diving low to his right to save Andy Williams’s penalty.

Stanley went ahead on eight minutes when Scott Brown played through Rommy Boco, who slotted past Ross Etheridge.

Rovers had not been behind for long when Tommy Rowe weaved his way into the area before firing home from 10 yards on 12 minutes.

Doncaster should have been comfortably ahead, with Andy Butler squandering two great chances, but Stanley made them pay on 29 minutes when defender Matty Pearson got the ball 30 yards out and unleashed a fierce shot into the bottom.

Doncaster dominated after the break with McConville going close, heading against a post.

With eight minutes left, Liam Mandeville’s cross was slotted home by Williams as Doncaster thought they had rescued a point.

But there was more drama as Chris Eagles sent in McConville for the winner, which he curled into the far corner of the net.
