Baldry’s double keeps dream alive

Blue Square North: Simon Baldry fired home a cross from Gavin Rothery in the dying minutes as Guiseley came back from 2-0 down to beat Redditch 3-2 and keep alive their promotion hopes.

Although Nuneaton, just above them, won, Guiseley went into fifth place above Eastwood Town and Solihull, who could only draw.

That had looked unlikely when Redditch turned round two-up and it was midway through the second half before Baldry headed home Guiseley’s first. James Walshaw, who had sent in the cross, grabbed the equaliser with a penalty three minutes from time and Baldry struck again with only seconds left on the clock.

Harrogate Town made it nine games without defeat with a 1-0 win over Worcester.

Early Worcester pressure saw Mark Cook pull off a magnificent save to deny City’s Matt Birley.

After that Harrogate dominated, with Ciaran Toner skimming the bar and Jake Picton testing Dean Coleman.

Graeme Armstrong headed in Wayne Phillips’s deep cross on 25 minutes for the only goal of the game.

After the break, Harrogate took control with Toner shooting at Coleman and Phillips and Martin Foster just missing with powerful drives.

In one of City’s late sporadic raids, Cook saved well from Birley to deny the visitors.

Evo-Stik: Bradford Park Avenue had to wait an hour before an own goal gave them the breakthrough against bottom club Retford. Adam Clayton added a second to keep Avenue in the final play-off spot, a single point above North Ferriby United, who have played a game more.

Wayne Brooksby put Ferriby on their way in the 20th minute but a goal just before the break saw Kendal turn round all square. Paul Harsley edged Ferriby back in front from the penalty spot and two goals in five minutes from Alex Davidson and Gary Bradshaw not only made sure of the points but gave their side a one-goal better goal difference than Park Avenue.

Champions FC Halifax notched their 29th win of the season, Danny Holland dispatching Scott Hogan’s cross to beat Marine.

Ashley Burbeary stroked home a penalty midway through the second half to clinch three points for relegation-threatened Frickley at Northwich Victoria. That puts them level on points with Hucknall, who could only draw and have played a game more.

Nantwich are two points better off after thrashing Ossett Town 5-0.

Whitby Town kept themselves five points above the drop zone with a 2-1 win over Ashton thanks to two goals in three second-half minutes from Kevin Burgess and an own goal.

While Bridlington Town can match them on points if they win their last four games and Farsley lose their final match, they are unlikely to make up the 21 goal difference.

Jones’s first two strikes and a late goal from Lee Connor gave Farsley a three-goal cushion at half-time but Tadcaster hit back through Terry Taylor and a Marc Thompson penalty to rattle visiting nerves.

Jones eased things four minutes later with a penalty, his 30th goal of the season, and even though Nick Thompson struck again for Albion, they could not find an equaliser.

Aaron Allanson, Craig Higgs and Gareth Owen put Bridlington 3-0 up after 26 minutes against relegated Dinnington Town but they were unable to go on and improve their goal difference.

Parkgate needed Farsley to slip up to maintain their hopes of taking the title and they certainly did their bit, hammering Nostell 6-0 with goals from Danny Cardwell, Ashley Worsfold, Nathan Swindells (2), Danny Major and Chris Wood.

Hallam are clinging on to their Premiership lives, a 2-1 win at Lincoln Moorlands with a 10th-minute strike from Ben Kistell and 87th-minute winner from Delano Stewart-Jones taking them within three points of Arnold who lost 2-1 at Winterton. Liversedge are not completely safe after losing 2-0 at Long Eaton.

Liam Davis scored the only goal as Selby won at Armthorpe.
