Bantams plan farewell to club legend Campbell

Bradford City have paid tribute to Bobby Campbell after their former striker died at the age of 60.

Campbell won two caps for Northern Ireland and was a member of their squad for the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

He started his career with Aston Villa and scored 143 goals in two spells with the Bantams, making him the club’s record goalscorer.

Campbell also had spells with Huddersfield, Sheffield United, Halifax Town, Vancouver Whitecaps, Brisbane City, Derby County and Wigan Athletic.

“The term ‘Legend’ will have many interpretations by many supporters,” read a Bantams statement.

“However, we think in unison, whether you knew Bobby well or only watched him from the touchline, overheard him dominate a room full of former players or simply heard the many tales others would tell about him, there can be no doubt of his legendary status.

Perhaps he optimises the word. At this time, never has there been a more apt use of our Club signature ‘Bantams Family’.

“From everyone connected with Bradford City, ‘Thank you’ for the great memories Bobby and we look forward to recognising your life and achievements at the appropriate time.”

Frazer Richardson appears unlikely to play for Doncaster Rovers again after suffering a new injury blow.

The former Leeds United and Rotherham United full back damaged knee ligaments during training last Friday and is set to be sidelined beyond the lifetime of his current deal.

Richardson only signed a contract until December 30 earlier this month, extending his initial short term deal with the club.

“There was about 20 seconds left on Friday’s session and he’s reached for the ball, his foot has planted and he’s done his knee ligaments,” boss Darren Ferguson said.

“He certainly won’t be available before his contract runs out. He’s contracted until December 30 and he’ll be injured until that.

“I feel for him. He’s a great lad.”

Richardson has managed just six appearances for Rovers.

Bolton Wanderers’ former Sheffield United goalkeeper Mark Howard, 30, has been ruled out for three months with a broken thumb.
