Bargains are order of the day as Tigers go shopping

The Tigers manager has money to spend when the transfer window opens next month following the successful 40m takeover by Assem and Ehab Allam.

Hull's new owners have pledged to back Pearson's attempts to strengthen with Peterborough United striker Aaron Mclean, 27, expected to be the first new arrival in a 1m deal.

Hull are also keen on Leicester City's Matty Fryatt, who netted 38 goals in two seasons under Pearson at the Walkers Stadium, and Swindon Town's Charlie Austin.

Of the two, Fryatt seems the more likely deal to happen after the two clubs yesterday agreed a fee. Swindon, meanwhile, rejected a 1m offer for Austin due to valuing the player at closer to 2m.

Also no longer believed to be a target for Hull is Craig Mackail-Smith with Peterborough's valuation again considered too high by the Yorkshire club.

Hull's head of football operations Pearson declined to speak about individuals but said of the club's planned transfer business in January: "Nigel wants to strengthen by bringing some goals and pace to the team and the owners are doing all they can to support him.

"This is the first time Nigel has had money to spend and I know he plans to spend it prudently. Nigel wants younger players and ones that represent outstanding value. He also wants to bring in players who he feels can develop into even better players.

"We would, ideally, like them to be under 25, or, in terms of someone like Aaron, at or approaching the peak of their careers."
