Barnsley 0 Chester 0: Turnbull stays alert to keep Reds in draw

The misfiring League One side were thankful to two smart saves from goalkeeper Ross Turnbull that kept them in the contest.

But the Tykes also wasted a string of chances and were thwarted by Chester goalkeeper Jon Worsnop on many occasions.

“We’re very lucky to be in the cup,” admitted Wilson. “It was frustrating from our point-of-view because we were wasteful.

“If you approach the game and you think it’s all done and dusted by just turning up, then that’s what you get.

“If we did under-estimate them the first 30 minutes showed that, we didn’t take the bull by the horns. We know that when we go there (to Chester), if we’re not up to it, we’ll get knocked out.”

Former Chelsea and Doncaster Rovers shot-stopper Turnbull denied Craig Mahon with a fine save and then did the same again to keep it goalless.

Joe Dudgeon twice cleared off the line to spare the hosts’ blushes while, at the other end Worsnop also sparkled as he saved shots from Marcello Trotta, Kane Hemmings and Conor Hourihane.

The Tykes could have won it the second minute of injury-time, but Hemmings’s goalbound shot was headed off the line by Chester captain Matt Brown.

Chester manager Steve Burr reflected: “It was a memorable day, it was a great FA Cup atmosphere.”
