Barnsley 1 Blackburn Rovers 3: Hill sacked as Tykes manager

Barnsley have sacked manager Keith Hill after their home defeat to Blackburn sent the club to the bottom of the npower Championship table.

Josh King gave the Rovers a first-half lead, beating Reds goalkeeper Luke Steele in a one-on-one encounter.

And things got worse for Hill’s side when Rochina netted a second for the visitors on 44 minutes.

Stephen Dawson snatched a lifeline for Barnsley with 15 minutes remaining, only for Jordan Rhodes to secure an away win with a stoppage-time third goal.

Hill, 43, has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks and earned a stay of execution following his side’s Boxing Day win at Millwall, but the Tykes slumped to a seventh home league defeat of the season today after losing 3-1 to managerless Blackburn.

Barnsley are now searching for their fourth manager in three and a half years following the departure of former Blackburn defender Hill, who replaced previous boss Mark Robins in June 2011.

A club statement read: “Barnsley Football Club have parted company with first-team Manager Keith Hill following today’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

“Reds Assistant Manager Dave Flitcroft has been asked to take charge of first-team affairs for the match at Peterborough United.”

Barnsley travel to Posh on New Year’s Day.
