Barnsley 1 Plymouth 3: Robins fury at Tykes collapse

BARNSLEY manager Mark Robins accused his side of capitulating after surrendering both a lead and complete command of this game.

Robins said: "The second-half performance was a complete contrast to the first half. We think that once we've got in front we think it's easy.

"In the second half it was capitulation. We had some decent chances and we didn't take them.

"They got a goal out of nothing and we just dropped backwards and backwards and it got difficult to get passing."

He added: "But we must not overreact. We've got to make sure we come back and make sure we are ready for the next match.

"We have got a lot of games left. We have had a lot of games but that's no excuse – but we've got to be better than that."

The Tykes were on top in the first half and went ahead when Carl Dickinson's cross from the left found unmarked Hugo Colace at the edge of the area for his sixth goal of the season. His first-time shot dipped and bounced past David Stockdale into the net.

Plymouth were denied an equaliser five minutes after the restart when Jamie Mackie's cross from the right found Rory Fallon unmarked in the six-yard box but Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele managed to punch the striker's header clear.

The visitors equalised in the 63rd minute when a cross from the right fell to captain Carl Fletcher and his shot from the edge of the area flew into the net for his first goal of the season, giving Steele no chance.

Three minutes later, Craig Noone's first-time shot rattled the home bar.

Plymouth took the lead in the 73rd minute when substitute Yannick Bolasie's corner was flicked on by Fallon to Mackie, whose header rocketed home.

Former Barnsley player Fallon got the visitors' third eight minutes from time when his speculative shot from 35 yards gave Steele no chance.

Plymouth manager Paul Mariner urged his side to take confidence from the win as they look to fight their way out of the relegation zone.

The win was the Pilgrims' first since they beat Cardiff on Boxing Day but they remain second from bottom and six points from safety.

Mariner said: "I've been banging on that we have got a tremendous team spirit and when you've got that you have a chance.

"This team has got to believe in itself. I believe we have a chance to get out of this.

"It was a very good performance and I think the best performance under me."
