Craig Davies gave them the lead in the 14th minute from the penalty spot after Ipswich goalkeeper Dave Stockdale upended Danny Drinkwater.

And Ricardo Vaz Te doubled the advantage on 39 when he stooped low to head home a Jacob Butterfield corner.

Ipswich have fought gamely as they bid to avoid an eighth successive league defeat but have rarely threatened Luke Steele’s goal.

Victory would put Barnsley seventh - one place and two points outside the play-offs.

But Barnsley were left stunned as the visitors were level just five minutes after the break, Keith Andrews with a quickfire double.

And it got worse in the 66th minute as Danny Collins rose highest to head home, before two minutes later Michael Chopra fired home a fourth goal.
