As far as making a first impression on your new coach goes, Barnsley did pretty well against Queens Park Rangers.

It must be said that after a strong start the Rsa were woeful as soon as they went down to ten men, making it easier to pick their passes and carve out chances.

The final ten minutes were embarrassing, so often did the Reds bear down on Seny Dieng without actually adding to their 3-0 lead somehow.

Even with that caveat, there were plenty of impressive perrforrmers in Red. Here, Stuart Rayner assesses them.

Jack Walton – despite how the game started his noisy organising was needed more than his shot-stopping 6

Michael Sollbauer – one lovely diagonal pass as Barnsley got into their groove 7

Michal Helik – had very little to do 6

Mads Andersen – nice dinked pass to Odour shortly before the opener 7

Callum Brittain – got forward well 7

Callum Styles – outstanding in the first half at central midfield, he switched to being outstanding at left wing-back in the second 8

Alex Mowatt – his passing quality shone through as always 7

Clark Oduor – a regular outlet once Barnsley grew into the first half but he came off at the break 7

Dominic Frieser – set up the second for Chaplin after being switched to the left 7

Cauley Woodrow – deadly from the penalty spot, his third in four games, but as a goalscorer he will be cursing the heavy touch which actually led to Barnsley's third 7

Conor Chaplin – an important first goal of the season for the forward and some unselfish play too. The only black mark was curling a late chance wide 8.

Substitutes:

Matty James (for Oduor, 46) – elegant passing when he came on 7

Patrick Schmidt (for Woodrow, 67) – wasted some really good chances to impress his new boss with his finishing 5

Elliot Simoes (for Frieser, 75) – prominent in Barnsley's wasteful end to the game, for good and for bad 6.

Not used: Kane, Halme, Miller, Collins.
