Barnsley 4 Blackpool 2: Tykes end their long wait for Oakwell win

Sam Winnall bagged a couple of goals as his side roared to a very welcome first home league success since September.

Relieved boss Lee Johnson said: “I’m delighted because that was a well-deserved three points for us.

“To be honest we could have won that game 9-3. We look a real threat when we’re in that kind of mood.”

The hosts took the lead after three minutes. Winnall dived in bravely to head home his eighth goal of the season as he met Reece Wabara’s low cross.

Adam Hammill forced a fine save from Blackpool goalkeeper Dean Lyness, while Winnall saw a shot deflected inches wide.

Blackpool levelled in the 53rd minute when Mark Cullen slotted home, but three minutes later the Tykes were 3-1 up as Winnall coolly beat Lyness and Marley Watkins drilled home clinically.

Blackpool made it 3-2 as the game entered stoppage-time when Andy Little converted David Norris’s cross.

However, Tykes’ teenage sub Matty Templeton completed a well-deserved win in the 94th minute when he drilled home after a one-two with Ben Pearson.
