Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt tests positive for coronavirus

BARNSLEY captain Alex Mowatt will miss Saturday’s game at Norwich City after testing positive for Covid-19.

Head coach Valerien Ismael confirmed the news at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Carrow Road, with back-up goalkeeper Brad Collins having also tested positive.

They will now spend a ten-day spell in isolation.

Conor Chaplin and George Miller will also miss the game after being in close contract with the pair.

Ismael said: “We have some positive Covid tests which came back. We did tests on Wednesday.

"Two guys are positive. Brad Collins and Alex Mowatt.

“Conor Chaplin was in contact with a person with Covid) and is out.

“George Miller was a contact, so we have four players who are out of the side, along with (injured players) Jordan Williams and Aapo Halme.

“The situation is very sensitive and we have some issues, but we have to deal with it and it is the chance for others guys to start the game and come into the squad against Norwich and we must stay focused on the players who are available. This is our focus and it is a big game and we need performances from all the players.

“But we have to accept this is the rules with Covid and we have to respect the protocol. We have done a very good job and Craig Sedgwick has reacted fantastically well, I have to say, with the right moment and decision to take the right player out without a risk to the other ones.
