Barnsley net £7m from John Stones' move to Manchester City
A product of the Reds’ academy, Stones has been the talk of constant speculation all summer as Manchester City have publicly courted the player.
Stones, 22, joined Everton from Barnsley on the final day of the January transfer window in 2013 for £3m.

Reports suggest that the clause was the contributing factor in the deal being held up, with neither City or Everton wanting to cough up the sum.
However, with a £47.5m deal being concluded hours after UEFA mistakenly announced Stones’ place in City’s Champions League squad for the upcoming season, Barnsley are set to receive an eye-watering amount.
It is a substantial amount of money for Barnsley to be receiving. In the last eight seasons, the Reds have spent roughly £1.5m combined on incoming transfers, while the sale of Stones alone raised double that amount.

Barnsley lad Stones made 26 appearances for his hometown club before moving to Goodison Park. He was made to wait for his debut, but after Roberto Martinez handed him a start in August 2013, he went on to play 26 times in his first full season.
He made 28 appearances the following year but last season established himself as one of Europe’s best young defenders as 41 appearances across all competitions earned him a place in England’s Euro 2016 squad.
