Barnsley: Quick-healer White remains in Heckingbottom's plans

BARNSLEY caretaker head coach Paul Heckingbottom is not ruling out Aidy White being involved before the end of the season despite the defender suffering ankle ligament damage at the weekend.

The former Rotherham United and Leeds United player, who has had his fair share of injury woes in the past, was stretchered off in the first half of Saturday’s derby win over Doncaster Rovers.

Scans have revealed that the 24-year-old suffered ligament damage, although it is currently unclear how long he will be sidelined.

Heckingbottom, who will continue to take charge of the Reds for the the weekend game at Crewe and the home match with Coventry next Tuesday, said: “It is ligament damage and we are going to have to look at the method of treatment. Are we going to be conservative or try and coax him through it?

“Or when he sees the specialist, he might say he needs surgery and that will obviously dictate, so it’s slightly up in the air. But I am definitely not (ruling out White for the rest of the season).

“We have seen how quickly Aidy in the past has come back from the other injuries and how determined he is.”

Heckingbottom admitted to mixed feelings following his side’s Roses 0-0 draw at Bury on Tuesday night in a game that saw star winger Adam Hammill dismissed late on for a tackle on ex-Reds player Daniel Rose.

The club are unlikely to appeal over the red card.

On the display, Heckingbottom said: “I think we have to be happy with it in the end, with the battling performance and the point and the clean sheet.

“At half-time, we wouldn’t have settled for a point. I thought we were the better team and wasted some good opportunities.

“But it turned into a bit of a battle and a war of attrition.

“We coped well with everything they threw at us.”
