Beckford fires Foxes through

Leicester City’s Jermaine Beckford scored a hat-trick as Nottingham Forest were swept aside 4-0 in the FA Cup third-round replay at King Power Stadium last night.

Former Leeds United striker Beckford had a stroke of good fortune with his third goal, above, when he inadvertently squeezed the ball into the turf and it looped over Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp.

George Boateng had set the tone for a dire night for Forest, clipping into his own net following a scramble to set Leicester on their way to a tie with Swindon.

Bolton secured their place in the fourth round as first-half goals from Kevin Davies and Martin Petrov saw them to victory against Macclesfield at the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers were one up inside the first minute when Ivan Klasnic capitalised on an error by Jon Bateson and crossed for Davies, who finished from close range, before Petrov doubled their advantage in the 26th, firing in from just outside the area.

The Trotters held on and will face Swansea at home in the next round a week on Saturday.

Mark Hughes marked his home debut as Queen’s Park Rangers manager with a nervous 1-0 win against League One Milton Keynes Dons.
