Big week for Terriers as Grayson eyes glory

AHEAD of a potentially season defining nine days for Huddersfield Town, Simon Grayson admits the League One promotion race will become a lot clearer very soon.

The Terriers travel to Carlisle United today for the League One match of the day before heading to Leyton Orient on Tuesday for their game in hand on the other promotion challengers.

Easter then brings a crunch clash with Sheffield Wednesday at the Galpharm on the Saturday before Town head to the south coast to take on Bournemouth two days later.

Grayson said: “This is a big week or so for everyone but particularly ourselves due to having our game in hand. The picture will be a lot clearer by the end of Easter Monday.

“The great thing from our point of view is the dressing room was very buoyant after our win against Charlton and the players are keen to take that into what will be a tough game against Carlisle.

“We are doing everything we can to prepare well. We will stay down south after Tuesday’s game and then on the Sunday before we face Bournemouth on Easter Monday we will be flying down to make sure the players don’t have a long coach journey on a Bank Holiday weekend.”

Carlisle have enjoyed another fine season under Greg Abbott with the midweek win at Milton Keynes Dons meaning the Cumbrians will host Huddersfield as the team currently in the final play-off place.

Considering their average attendance is under 5,000 and the resources at his disposal, Abbott is doing an impressive job.

Grayson said: “It is two of the top six meeting so we know it will be tough. Greg has had his team there or thereabouts for some time and I know from my days at Leeds just what a difficult place it can be.

“But we will go there full of confidence.”

Sheffield United’s 4-1 demolition of Chesterfield on Wednesday means Town trail the second placed Blades by five points but with a game in hand.

Grayson added: “The picture has not changed that much this week as Sheffield United were expected to win.

“I still expect things to go to the wire and goal difference could play a part. It won’t, though, affect my thinking as when 2-0 up, I have always tried to push on for more goals anyway.”
