Blackburn Rovers v Huddersfield Town: Old boy Rhodes still big threat to Town

WITH five goals in four games against Huddersfield Town, Jordan Rhodes is the man to fear today as Chris Powell’s men head across the Pennines to Blackburn Rovers.

No wonder, therefore, that the new Terriers chief has ordered his players to keep a close eye on a striker who cost the Lancashire club £8m in August, 2012.

Jordan is a wonderful player, and rightly revered at our club,” said Powell, whose own spirits have soared this week after masterminding Huddersfield’s first back-to-back wins of 2014.

“You can see why there was Premier League interest in him during the last transfer window, and he is the kind of player who really tests concentration levels.

“Over at Rotherham in midweek, he had a really good chance out of virtually nothing, and we have to be alert, not just to Jordan, but to the whole Blackburn side. They have some very good players and some very creative players, and I expect a response from them after Rotherham.”

Powell sprung a major surprise in midweek at Wolverhampton Wanderers when he dropped Nahki Wells to the bench despite the Bermuda international netting twice in his last outing, the 2-1 victory over Millwall of a week ago.

Instead, Grant Holt started as a lone frontman in a 4-5-1 formation that saw widemen Harry Bunn and Sean Scannell urged to get forward when Town had possession.

Town went on to win 3-1 with Powell’s only disappointment being Wolves netting the final goal.

He said: “Clean sheets are so important, and keeping one is a big target for us. We have shown we have the firepower and the creativity. By keeping clean sheets, we guarantee at least one point and give ourselves a great chance of three.”
