Blackburn Rovers v Rotherham United: Millers duo back for key trip to Ewood Park

The Millers have won just once this season – a 1-0 home win over Brentford in August – and sit in 20th spot, four points better off than bottom-of-the-table Rovers.

Manager Alan Stubbs has been boosted by the return from injury of Jake Forster-Caskey (knee) and Joe Newell (toe) after the duo missed Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.

“We had a couple missing from the other night,” Stubbs said.

“We were without Jake Forster-Caskey and Joe Newell. Joe has had a couple of days for his toe to settle down.

“He has got a fracture to his hand, but he has a cast on that so that’s not really a problem.

“Jake had a little bit of soreness and stiffness in his knee. He has had a scan and that has showed up no damage so he has trained (yesterday). Both will come back into the squad.”

However, Rotherham have issues in defence with Darnell Fisher suspended and Richard Wood out after injuring his ribs in a friendly match.

“Woody got a whack in his ribs in a behind-closed-doors game,” Stubbs said.

“Initially it was painful, and then it got worse so he has missed training for the last five or six days. He joined in training (yesterday), it was obviously very light, but he won’t be in the squad for the weekend.”

Fisher serves a one-match ban after picking up two yellow cards against Forest.

“I think straight away it is a chance for someone else,” said Stubbs. “It is like everything in football, players are not in the team, suddenly things happen whether it is suspensions, illness, injury – that happens.

“Then an opportunity comes for someone else, so that will be the case on Saturday.”
