SHEFFIELD UNITED are preparing to batten down the hatches '“ quite literally '“ at Bloomfield Road tonight.

The Blades have displayed their resilence on the road of late, particularly on their recent away-days at Colchester and Wigan when they showed their reservoirs of character are plentiful to chisel out two important results.

After the disappointing weekend draw at home to Swindon, the Blades are likely to need to call upon their resolve tonight, especially with the remnants of Storm Jonas set to bring heavy rain and gales to the north-west.

Boss Nigel Adkins said: “In their last home game, Blackpool put five past Scunthorpe and their spirits are going to be high so, first of all, we have got to match that.

“Apparently, it is going to be quite challenging with the weather with the water and the wind too, but we have got to deal with that and I think we have been dealing with a lot of adversity this season and this is just another thing we have to look forward to.”

Adkins is keen on doing some business before the winter transfer window ends, but has pledged not to dive into the market, is only interested in quality and prepared to wait for the right deal.

The Blades chief is also keen to trim down his squad, which represents another big priority.

He added: “I would like to bring in a couple of players. But they have got to be the right players.

“I am not just going to do it for the sake of doing it. That happens far too often and then later on, you think you have got too many players again.”

Otis Khan has joined Barnsley on an 18-month deal after a trial.
