Championship

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Blackpool 0

Owls boss Alan Irvine: "It's a terrific effort.

"Five wins out of seven is magnificent in any division, the lads deserve enormous credit for what they've done and a clean sheet was nice.

"But we're still very much in it. A couple of bad results and people are catching up on you. Reading look like they won their game.

"I think this is going to go a long, long way. We still need six wins I believe, but it sounds an awful lot better, six out of 16 than 11 out of 23."

Preston 2 Sheffield United 1

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell said: "We should have got something out of the game, that's for sure.

"I thought the referee had a big influence on the shape of the game.

"For the penalty Nyron Nosworthy has used his body to get between Welbeck and himself.

"It's on the DVD so I know what I'm talking about.

"But we had some chances second half and really should have finished them off.

"The problem at the moment is that we are throwing players together."

Middlesbrough 2 Barnsley 1

Barnsley boss Mark Robins said: "We've given them two goals - simple as that.

"The second half was a little bit of a transformation. We've created a few more chances, got the ball into the penalty area more and really could have taken something from the game.

"I'll accept that it's probably been a bit of a feature with us - and too much of a feature - that we perform better in the second half than we do in the first half.

"Sometimes it doesn't cost us, here it has. You've got to play for 90 minutes and not give teams goals.

"It's just elementary things that we're not doing right and if we do them right we end up being more successful than we were here."

Leicester City 0 Doncaster Rovers 0

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "I didn't think the performance merited anything but a point. Both teams couldn't get any rhythm going.

"There's many games in the Championship that lack rhythm. It's a matter of making sure you're organised and disciplined and that's the benchmark for any Championship side.

"It's more difficult for the teams that want to play. We have got beaten in the last four games and played a lot better than that so if anyone has the answer come and see me."

League One

Brighton 0 Huddersfield Town 0

Terriers boss Lee Clark said: "It was a bit scrappy at times but I should think Gus Poyet is happy with his side's efforts as they put us under a lot of pressure at times.

"We had one or two chances in the first half but I thought we did better in the second - certainly when we moved to two up top we had a few chances and looked capable of nicking a goal and all three points.

"We are not firing on all cylinders at the moment in terms of our fluent football, but I have asked the players to grind out results away from home, and that is two clean sheets on the bounce away, in which we have taken four points."

League Two

Rotherham United 2 Dagenham and Redbridge 0

Millers manager Ronnie Moore said: "We chased the ball, made tackles and moved the ball quicker tonight and that is what the supporters wanted to see.

"Adam le Fondre was magnificent in and around the box. He was a constant threat all evening, the goal came out of nothing really, it was just a quick reaction.

"I have said that this is the beginning of our season, so we will go to Lincoln full of confidence."
