Bringing in another option ahead of next Friday's domestic transfer deadline has been Bradford's major priority and McCall is on the verge of a breakthrough.

But he confirmed that the player is unlikely to feature in Monday's televised Yorkshire derby with Harrogate Town.

McCall said: “We should have somebody in the next few days, not (to be available) for Monday’s game.

“He may be in for Monday if things go according to plan."

Meanwhile, McCall said he plans to talk to Connor Wood about a new deal soon, but has warned that the financial ramifications of a potential further shut-down for football might be a further consideration in discussions.

He said: "That’s something once this window closes, we will definitely be discussing people who are coming out of contract at the end of the season. Connor’s a key part to what we are doing here.

“There’s still an outside chance things could be closed down again. Obviously that’s a worst-case scenario.

“If that was to be the case and we weren’t to get any income from the iFollow etc, then the offers we could make to players would obviously be a lot less.

“But hopefully in the coming months we can get back up and running and the future of football clubs can financially be a lot healthier.

“It is naturally that we’ve got to take into consideration.”

Winger Zeli Ismail is sidelined for two to three weeks with a hamstring tear in midweek, while City are awaiting on news regarding Clayton Donaldson, who suffered a foot injury in the midweek EFL Trophy game with Wolves under-21s.

McCall continued: "Zeli went for a scan yesterday and he’s got a low grade-two (tear) in his hamstring. That will probably keep him out for two to three weeks.

"Clayton is going for an x-ray on the top of his foot this afternoon. It’s settled down a lot but is still quite swollen.

"But he’s hopeful that he can join in training on Saturday. We’re just getting him scanned as a precaution that there’s no little crack.”
