Bradford City hope to receive framework for 2020-21 season in July

BRADFORD CITY director of communications Ryan Sparks says that the League Two club are grateful for the clarity provided by the official conclusion to the season in the fourth tier - and hope that a framework regarding the 2020-21 campaign will become clearer next month.

League Two clubs including Bradford - who finished the 2019-20 season in ninth place - voted unanimously to formally end their season by an 'overwhelming majority', as expected today, after agreeing that in an indicative vote back on May 15.

Coming up automatically from League Two are Swindon Town, as champions, alongside Crewe Alexandra, and Plymouth Argyle, with the final table decided by an unweighted points per game format incorporating promotion, relegation and four-team play-offs.

In the play-off semi-finals, Colchester United face Exeter City and Northampton Town play Chetenham Town. The first leg takes place on June 18 and the second leg is scheduled for June 22.

Sparks said: “Today has clearly been historic and the build up to it has been long and winding.

"But, at the very least, we have been able to finally make some much-needed progress and edge further towards the definitive end of this season.

"The play-offs can now take place and a formal conclusion will be reached before the end of June, which is important for clubs going forward.

"In terms of the future, which remains somewhat unclear, it is now crucial we look towards a start date for the 2020/21 campaign.

"This will allow clubs to best prepare themselves for what lies ahead. We understand the Premier League would like to begin next season around September, but this will be dependent on a host of outside factors, including the UEFA Champions League.

"Hopefully, by July, we will have received a framework which we can work towards. From there, with a bit of luck, the transfer market will kick into gear and we can begin work in that area as well."

City For All' 2020/21 season-ticket sales remain suspended until further notice as the Bantams await more information regarding potential capacity restrictions and social-distancing guidance.
