Jack Payne’s first half strike saw off Burton to ensure Collins tasted victory at Valley Parade for the first time since being installed as head coach over the summer.

“It wasn’t pretty but given all the negativity around the club last week but I’m delighted,” reflected Collins.

“All we wanted was the three points.

“We made sure as a team we put ourselves on the line, and that showed when people chucked themselves at the ball and put their bodies on the line.”

Collins will be hoping for more of the same on Saturday when City welcome Wycombe to West Yorkshire.

“It gives us something to build on,” he added.

“There’s still a lot we need to work on.

“The players stood forward as men and gave everyhting they pissibly could.”
