Bradford City v Cambridge United - Rookie Finn Cousin-Dawson welcomes familiar faces in dugout

Finn Cousin-Dawson says making only his third league start for Bradford City was made easier by the presence of familiar faces in the Crawley away dugout.

Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars will again be in caretaker charge of the Bantams for today’s visit of Cambridge United as the search for a new manager goes on.

Stuart McCall handed the 18-year-old right-back his debut but Trueman and Sellars nurtured not just him but Kian Scales, Connor Shanks and Jorge Sikora, all of whom were in Tuesday’s squad, through the academy. Injured teenager Reece Staunton is another home-grown player.

So the fact the pair were only parachuted into the job on Sunday was not a problem for the youngsters.

“It wasn’t too difficult because I knew the points they were trying to put across to us,” he said. “I understood quite quickly.

“They put loads of work in on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday before the (Crawley) game and made it quite easy for the players with the analysis and stuff like that. I think everyone adapted quite well.

“In a sense it was good we had so little time because you’re not dwelling on stuff and worrying about things but it’s also good to prepare and know what you’re up against – knowing who you’re up against and what his strengths and weaknesses are, stuff like that – and we did that.

“Both Mark and Conor have had a massive influence on my career. I was in the youth team with them for two years and they improved me a lot.

“They got me to first-year pro and I know they trust me to play in that position.”
