Bradford City: Jones under pressure

BRADFORD CITY manager Phil Parkinson acknowledged that he may have to consider a change in goal following Brad Jones’s gaffe in the Bantams’ 2-0 loss at Colchester United - their second defeat in four days.

The former Liverpool and Middlesbrough custodian, 33, signed on a year’s deal last month, has lined up in goal for the club’s last three matches - after replacing Ben Williams.

But the Australian has already let in six goals, with City yet to win in his three games between the posts with the keeper showing poor technique in failing to save Callum Harriott’s shot in the seventh minute last night which gave the U’s the lead.

It came just after James Hanson missed a big chance to put Bradford ahead, with Marvin Sordell adding a killer second for Colchester before the interval.

The loss has further stalled City’s momentum after a promising unbeaten run at the end of August and start of September, with Parkinson’s troops now without a win in four matches and languishing sixth from bottom in League One - just two points above the relegation zone.

On whether he may have to make a change in goal, Parkinson, speaking after the game at his old club, said: “Yeah, I may have to.

“I’ve got a long journey now to sit back and think of what to do. But we win together and lose together as a team. That’s all of us.

“When everything’s going for Colchester at the moment, we haven’t half gifted them a first goal.

“First we have a glaring opportunity to score and then we conceded a really soft goal.”

Admitting his side have lost their spark in the past few weeks, Parkinson, who said that key defender Rory McArdle missed the game through sickness, added: “We kept going and kept trying to do the right things but it wasn’t always great.

“We’ve lost our creativity from what we had a few weeks ago.”
