Bradford City offer Jackson chance to resurrect Bantams

The 49-year-old was at City’s dramatic 3-2 win over Stockport County yesterday and has met the players for the first time today.

A former Bantams captain, Jackson has been out of the game since leaving Lincoln City in September, 2009.

Just how long he stays in charge remains to be seen as the Valley Parade board sift through applications and draw up a shortlist for interview.

But he will definitely be in the dugout for the next two City games - at Gillingham on Saturday and the following Tuesday’s derby with Rotherham United - alongside David Wetherall, who has been promoted from youth team duties to assist Jackson.

If Jackson does well in those two games, he will then give his own chances of becoming the permanent replacement to Peter Taylor a major boost.

He spent two spells in charge of Huddersfield Town first taking charge in the 1997-98 season that ended in the club’s ‘Great Escape’ from relegation in the second tier.

The following year he led Town to the top of the First Division before they fell back to finish tenth.

The former defender was sacked that summer but returned in the summer of 2003 after the Terriers had been in administration.

Promotion was secured from the basement division less than a year later, while in 2006 he led Town to the League One play-offs.

He left in March, 2007, and took charge of Lincoln City six months later only to have to take a sabbatical after being diagnosed with throat cancer.
