Captain Jones provides City inspiration for Reid

IF Kyel Reid has ever harboured any doubts as to Bradford City’s ability to prevail in this season’s promotion race, he merely looked across the pitch towards team-mate Gary Jones.

The Bantams captain recently swept the board at the club’s Player of the Year awards night to cap a remarkable first season at Valley Parade.

At 35, Jones has been a mainstay of Phil Parkinson’s side and Reid, who is hoping to be fit to face Northampton Town in Saturday’s final, admits to viewing the veteran midfielder as an inspiration.

Reid said: “When you watch someone like Gary Jones, it gives you a boost.

“You find that extra bit of energy to keep going.

“He is an inspiration to us all. I would love to be going like that at 35.”

For Reid, Saturday’s final is a chance to make up for the disappointment of being left on the bench when Bradford lost 5-0 to Swansea City in the Capital One Cup final.

He added: “It was an amazing feeling to be part of it against Burton (in the second leg when Bradford came from behind to reach Wembley). Obviously, I missed out on the last great occasion when we were at Wembley so I want to enjoy the occasion now. This time we are going to do a job.”
