Frustration for City as Benson bid fails

LEAGUE TWO: Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson has spoken of his frustration over the late collapse of the deal to sign Paul Benson.

The Bantams wanted to sign the 32-year-old on loan with a view to a permanent deal going through in January after agreeing a £100,000 plus fee with Charlton Athletic.

However, after concerns arose during yesterday’s medical, City tried to restructure the payments only for the Addicks to turn down the proposal.

Parkinson said: “It was disappointing, especially as late Wednesday night it looked like everything was sorted out.

“Unfortunately, Charlton weren’t willing to restructure the deal. I think they thought we were trying to pull a fast one, which we definitely weren’t.

“But we move on and focus on this weekend’s game at Gillingham.”

Following the collapse of his proposed move to Valley Parade, Benson joined Swindon Town on loan shortly before yesterday’s deadline.
