Match Centre: Bradford City 1 Shrewsbury Town 2

Peter Jackson’s three-match unbeaten run as interim manager of Bradford City came to an end at home to promotion-chasing Shrewsbury Town.

Tom Adeyami was brought into midfield in place of the suspended Jon Worthington as Bradford City aimed to avenge an opening day defeat against play-off chasing Shrewsbury.

Jon McLaughlin kept his place in goal even though Lenny Pidgeley was available after a dead leg and Peter Jackson gave bench places to youngsters Darren Stephenson and Dominic Rowe.

City rarely threatened in the first period and were indebted to a double save from McLaughlin to prevent them from going behind.

It came in the 27th minute when McLaughlin parried Matt Harrold’s drive before smothering the follow-up from Mark Wright.

City’s best effort before the break came when Gareth Evans curled a free-kick around the wall only to see Ben Smith get across to his near post and punch the ball for a corner.

City stunned the Shrews in the 67th minute as Adeyemi smashed the ball home from outside the area after Smith had punched out a free-kick from Luke O’Brien.

The visitors made a double substitution and the pair combined for the equaliser in the 77th minute, Lionel Ainsworth flicking the ball into the are and Tom Bradshaw cracking the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Bradshaw struck again with two minutes remaining, racing onto a cut-back from the speedy Jon Taylor and forcing the ball into the roof of the net.
