Parkinson to cash in from exit by Mclean

BRADFORD City manager Phil Parkinson is set to jettison striker Aaron Mclean in order to strengthen his squad.

The 31-year-old, one of City’s top earners, has failed to impress since signing from Hull City in January, scoring just six goals in 32 appearances.

Parkinson believes the time is right to send him out on loan and there has been plenty of interest in a forward who scored 67 goals in 148 appearances over four years for Peterborough.

“With Aaron I have decided that it might be best if he goes out on loan,” said Parkinson, who did not include him in Saturday’s squad.

“We have had a few enquiries about him and I want to raise some money to bring somebody else in and Aaron gives us the opportunity to do that.

“I thought it might have happened before the weekend, but he is contemplating offers fom one or two clubs who have come in for him and, if he goes (this week), hopefully, I can utilise that money and strengthen in a couple of departments.

“Sometimes you have to make decisions to generate a bit of money to freshen things up. It’s no more than that.”

Young striker Oliver McBurnie was also due to be sent out to gain experience, but with on-loan Jon Stead not having received permission from parent club Huddersfield Town to feature in Sunday’s FA Cup first-round tie at FC Halifax Town, that has been put on hold.

Parkinson continued: “The plan is that if we get reinforcements in and we boost our squad then he will probably go out on loan – but only when we are ready.”
