Port Vale 0 Bradford 0: Frustration continues for Bradford at Vale Park with only one point secured

Bradford City were forced to settle for a point at Vale Park where the home side had midfielder Doug Loft sent off in injury time.

On another night their impressive performance would have given them all three in their continuing bid for promotion.

City created the first opening of the game when Garry Thompson laid the ball back for Will Atkinson, who dragged a shot across goal and wide.

Vale responded with a Louis Dodds shot that took a wicked deflection leaving Jon McLaughlin stranded and happy to see the ball bounce wide.

The City goalkeeper was in action again just past the half hour when Tom Pope headed a Jennison Myrie-Williams free-kick goalwards, McLaughlin flinging out his left hand to somehow tip the ball over the bar.

Bradford wasted chances from a free-kick and a couple of corners before Carl McHugh did well at the other end to fling himself in front of Doug Loft and clear.

James Hanson had a header from a McHugh cross tipped onto the bar by Chris Neal three minutes after the restart.

And the big striker nodded agonisingly wide before a Rory McArdle effort was cleared off the line. Pope had Vale’s best second-half chances, but twice failed to make the most of headers and saw a well-struck shot blocked by McArdle.

There was more drama in added time with Loft red-carded for a challenge on Ricky Ravenhill and Vale goalkeeper Neal just getting to a Kyel Reid cross before Hanson could capitalise.
