Yeovil v Bradford City: Halliday eager not to miss City’s Chelsea tie

The Middlesbrough midfielder has spent the past three months at Valley Parade and been an important figure in the Bantams’ upturn in form.

Now, with his loan spell due to end after today’s trip to Yeovil Town and a trip to Chelsea in store this time next week, Halliday admits he would be left distraught if an extension cannot be agreed.

He said: “I would be crying if something doesn’t happen after pulling Chelsea out of the FA Cup. But that is for Middlesbrough and Bradford to work out.

“I have just wanted to keep in the background and just concentrate on the football. I think Middlesbrough know that I want to stay and, hopefully, Bradford want to keep me. But we will see what happens after the weekend.

“Let’s not look too far ahead, we have got Yeovil first and let’s push on with more points. We are in the play-offs positions and we want to keep that going.”

Halliday was one of several heroes for City in the midweek victory over Millwall in the Cup that set up the glamour tie at Stamford Bridge.

Dove-tailing beautifully with Gary Liddle in central midfield, the loanee netted his second goal in City colours.

“I really, really wanted to get a goal,” said Halliday, whose first goal for the Bantams came in October. “I see myself as a midfield player who can chip in with goals. I have had a lot of chances since I’ve been here. Taken some stick for that as well.”

On that win over the Lions, Halliday added: “We were disappointed not to go through at Millwall.

“Sometimes you don’t want that extra game to congest your schedule but it was brilliant to get them back in front of our own fans and play like that.”
